Jeju Reports No New COVID-19 Cases on the 1st as Feared
September 26 to October 1: All 403 COVID-19 Tests Negative Over 6 Days
Governor Won Hee-ryong Urges "Chuseok Holiday Quarantine Test... Maintain 5-Minute Standby for Full Response"
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] On the 1st, it was confirmed that no new COVID-19 cases occurred in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, which is implementing special quarantine measures for the Chuseok holiday.
Jeju Province announced on the 2nd that 165,653 people entered the island from September 26 to September 30. The domestic flight reservation rate was 80.8%, and it was estimated that about 40,000 additional people arrived on the previous day as well.
During this period, a total of 403 COVID-19 diagnostic tests were conducted on visitors who entered Jeju, all of which tested negative.
A total of 104 people with a fever of 37.5°C or higher were detected through Jeju International Airport, of whom 94 were confirmed as simple fever cases after re-measurement. The remaining 10 underwent COVID-19 diagnostic testing and were quarantined; after receiving negative results from the Provincial Health and Environment Research Institute, their quarantine was lifted.
Jeju Province has designated the period from the weekend of the 26th until the end of the Chuseok holiday on October 4 as a special quarantine intensive management period, implementing high-intensity quarantine measures including mandatory compliance with quarantine rules.
Governor Won Hee-ryong emphasized at the weekly policy coordination meeting on the 28th, “This Chuseok holiday is especially a test of our quarantine capabilities,” adding, “As it is both the greatest crisis and an opportunity to demonstrate exemplary quarantine, I will remain on standby for 5 minutes to ensure swift and thorough action on the front lines, and I urge all agency heads to activate a system for total response.”
Visitors entering through airports and ports must comply with quarantine rules such as wearing masks during their stay in Jeju. If their temperature is 37.5°C or higher during the fever check conducted immediately upon arrival, they must undergo a COVID-19 diagnostic test and follow quarantine measures at designated residences or reserved accommodations in the province until results are confirmed.
Even while traveling after arrival, if symptoms suspected of COVID-19 such as fever appear, individuals must stop going out and consult medical institutions such as local health centers and screening clinics before visiting to receive a medical examination.
Jeju Province plans to impose fines of up to 3 million KRW under Article 80, Clause 7 of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act for violations of mandatory quarantine compliance, and will claim compensation for quarantine costs incurred from testing, investigation, and treatment if confirmed cases arise due to violations.
