"Sharing Warmth"... Banking Sector's Chuseok Love Sharing Event
Volunteer Activities and Support Continue for Neighbors Struggling Due to COVID-19 and Flood Damage
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] On the occasion of the national holiday Chuseok, a series of love-sharing events by banks were held to help neighbors facing difficulties due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and flood damage.
Korea Development Bank recently held a love-sharing event to comfort and support disadvantaged groups such as children from single-parent families and elderly living alone at affiliated welfare facilities by sharing songpyeon (rice cakes) and delivering sponsorship funds. They also visited four screening clinics in Yeongdeungpo-gu to deliver snack boxes and encourage medical staff and volunteers.
IBK Industrial Bank of Korea completed the redesign and replacement of the front signs and awnings of 157 stores at the Gurye 5-day Market in Jeollanam-do through the ‘IBK Hope Design’ project. The Gurye 5-day Market, officially established in 1959, is a traditional market currently struggling due to the spread of COVID-19 and flood damage this year. This project was carried out to revitalize the commercial district concentrated with small merchants by improving the environment.
Woori Financial Group, together with the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC), visited the Comprehensive Support Center for Elderly Living Alone and delivered the ‘Woori Happiness Box.’ The Woori Happiness Box consists of a total of 10 food items such as glutinous barley rice, seaweed, pickled vegetables, red pepper paste, and yakgwa (traditional Korean sweets) to support elderly people living alone who are facing difficulties due to strengthened social distancing and the closure of welfare facilities amid COVID-19.
In particular, the two organizations participated in overcoming national disasters and calamities by composing the happiness boxes with agricultural products from Korean farms recommended by the Korea Federation of Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial SMEs, which have been struggling due to COVID-19 and flood damage.
Kim Kwang-soo, Chairman of NH Nonghyup Financial Group, along with employees, visited Yegawon, a social welfare facility located in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, to carry out the ‘Sharing Love Agricultural Products Package’ activity. The packages, containing seven types of food including domestic agricultural products, masks, and hand sanitizers, were evenly distributed to seven welfare facilities and others.
Nonghyup Financial explained that the ‘Sharing Love Agricultural Products Package’ event was held not only to support farms going through difficult times due to COVID-19 and flood damage but also to share with marginalized neighbors around us.
KB Kookmin Bank held a ‘Traditional Market Love Sharing’ event non-face-to-face for the Chuseok holiday. Every holiday, KB Kookmin Bank has purchased goods with Onnuri gift certificates at traditional markets through this event and delivered them to neighbors in need. This year, due to COVID-19, they supported traditional markets through non-face-to-face shopping. KB Kookmin Bank’s 16 regional sales groups nationwide purchased food and daily necessities worth about 60,000 KRW per household at traditional markets and delivered them to about 4,500 households in need.
