[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Seoul City will provide 112 online contents across 8 categories, including Park Ecology School and Online Playground, which anyone can watch online during the five-day Chuseok holiday and enjoy by visiting nearby parks or forests.
These park programs have been conducted non-face-to-face since March due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and can be found on the 'Mountains and Parks of Seoul' website.
The content consists of stories and related activities about various animals including birds and insects living in the parks, as well as plants such as flowers, trees, leaves, and fruits. These are provided in the form of videos, PDF files, and newsletters.
Among them, 'Park Ecology School (20 items)' offers lecture videos on various topics such as animals and plants found in parks, forest play, and rural experiences. 'Online Playground (37 items)' provides introduction materials on ecology and history of five parks including Namsan, along with various activities like crafts and coloring in PDF files.
'Wise Home Play (7 items)' features crafts that children can easily make themselves, such as worry dolls and fireflies. 'Anyone Can Be a Natural Scientist (7 items)' offers more advanced natural science knowledge linked to school curricula. 'Honeybee’s Fun Life (6 items)' shares vivid stories of honeybees from the Namsan Park apiary. 'Park Exploration: The World of Living Things (5 items)' captures various appearances of creatures not usually noticed during walks in Namsan Park or forests, each presented in video form.
In particular, four episodes of 'Honeybee’s Fun Life' teach the fascinating communication of honeybees by explaining flower distances through the waggle dance and flower directions through the figure-eight dance relative to the sun. Also, two episodes of 'Park Exploration: The World of Living Things' show the adorable winking of a baby little owl.
'Namsan Ecological Treasure House (21 items)' and 'Boramae Park Infant Forest Experience Center News (9 items)' provide natural ecological information about animals and plants living in the parks in newsletter format.
