BTS 'Dynamite' Reclaims Top Spot on Billboard Singles Chart
Downloads, Streaming, and Radio Broadcasts All on the Rise
"Thanks to ARMY, Another Miracle Has Happened"
The group BTS's "Dynamite" has reclaimed the number one spot on the US Billboard main singles chart, the "Hot 100."
Billboard reported on the 28th (local time) that BTS's "Dynamite" rose back to number one on the latest "Hot 100" chart (for the week of September 18?24). The song had initially dominated the top spot for two consecutive weeks after its release. It then held the number two position for two weeks before returning to number one in its fifth week. It is the first time in about two years since Maroon 5's "Girls Like You," which topped the "Hot 100" for seven weeks from September to November 2018, that a duo or group's song has been number one for three or more weeks. "WAP" by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, which had been number one for the past two weeks, dropped to number two.
The "Hot 100" is a weekly chart that ranks the most popular songs in the United States. It compiles results based on streaming performance, digital sales, and radio airplay. It is considered more competitive than the main album chart, the "Billboard 200," and is known to present higher barriers for non-English songs.
"Dynamite" showed balanced growth in downloads (digital sales), streaming, and radio airplay in the US. In particular, downloads surged by an impressive 96% from the previous week to 153,000. Billboard analyzed this as the effect of the release of four remix versions (Bedroom, Midnight, Retro, Slow Jam) on the 18th. The remix versions accounted for 52% of the total sales of "Dynamite" in this charting period.
"Dynamite" also led the "Digital Song Sales" chart for five consecutive weeks. This is the first time since Lizzo's "Truth Hurts" topped this chart for five weeks from September to October last year. Streaming increased by 11% from the previous week, reaching 14 million plays. Radio airplay (for the week of the 21st to 27th) also rose by 8%, exposing the song to approximately 20.8 million listeners. Thanks to this, it achieved its highest-ever position at number 42 on the "Radio Songs" chart, which ranks songs based on airplay across all genres.
Upon news of reclaiming the number one spot, BTS expressed their gratitude on social media, saying, "Thanks to ARMY, another miracle has happened." Their agency, Big Hit Entertainment, also sincerely thanked the fans, stating, "We are truly grateful to ARMY for their continuous support."
