US Universities Flooded with Anonymous 'School Me Too' on Instagram
Operating Over 24 Survivors Accounts
Sharing Experiences of Catcalling, Sexual Harassment, and Sexual Violence Anonymously
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Anonymous Instagram accounts called 'Survivors' that share 'school Me Too' experiences such as rape, sexual harassment, stalking, sexual assault, and catcalling that occurred across universities in the United States and the United Kingdom are spreading.
According to foreign media including CNET on the 29th, more than 24 English-speaking universities have created anonymous accounts related to the so-called 'school Me Too,' receiving reports of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and stalking experiences and sharing them anonymously. For example, if you visit the Instagram accounts of CWRU Survivors (Case Western Reserve University Survivors) or Durham Survivors, posts containing experiences of sexual violence on campus are uploaded as image files.
In addition, survivor accounts sharing sexual violence experiences are operated at major U.S. universities such as UC Berkeley, Cornell, Brown, Columbia, George Washington University, as well as UK universities including Edinburgh, Robert Gordon, and Aberdeen.
The administrator of the CWRU Survivors account told CBS News in an interview, "Because it is an anonymous account, I think more people can freely talk about their experiences," adding, "The numerous stories of sexual violence on campus indicate that there is structural violence within the university. I hope we can work together to solve this problem." The account operator explained that the anonymous social media account function and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement influenced this initiative.

The Instagram 'school Me Too' movement at major universities began to spread after major sexual violence incidents occurred on campus. In July, over 20 cases of sexual assault occurred at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where the British royal couple Prince William and Catherine graduated, leading to the creation of the Instagram account 'St Andrews Survivors.'
