Gangbuk-gu Selected as an Excellent Public Institution in the 5th Korea Crime Prevention Awards
Police Commissioner Commendation Scheduled... 284 Organizations Applied, 28 Selected (14 Public Institutions, 7 Social Organizations, 7 Companies)... Recognized for 'Building Bright and Safe Urban Environments' and 'Creating Secure Residential Spaces'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) has been selected as an excellent public institution in each category at the '5th Korea Crime Prevention Awards 2020' and will receive a commendation from the Commissioner of the National Police Agency.
The Korea Crime Prevention Awards are given by the National Police Agency to public institutions, organizations, and companies that have made efforts to prevent crime in local communities. For the 5th awards, a total of 248 organizations nationwide applied, and 28 were selected (14 public institutions, 7 social organizations, 7 companies).
This award was the result of excellent evaluations in the field of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), such as 'creating a bright and safe urban environment' and 'establishing safe residential spaces.'
The contribution was recognized for implementing a bright and safe walking environment in crime-vulnerable areas within the region, thereby increasing residents' perceived safety.
So far, the district has taken the lead in crime prevention through urban environment improvement. Existing security lights were replaced with eco-friendly LEDs to create alleys where residents can walk safely even at night. 'Smart security lights' equipped with black boxes and 'logoprojectors' projecting police car images onto the ground are playing a key role as guardians protecting the safety of residents.
In the 'safe residential space creation' plan, solutions were proposed from the building permit stage. The district set conditions for approval of residential buildings, including installing security windows, gas pipe protection facilities, and unmanned parcel lockers.
In particular, it was noted that mandating the installation of locks on shared entrances contributed to crime prevention in daily life.
