On the 6th, Korea-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue Held... Discussion on 'Advancing the New Southern Policy'
Participation of Think Tanks from 10 ASEAN Countries... Assessment of Regional Strategic Environment Including Intensified US-China Strategic Competition
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 6th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold the "2nd Korea-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue," involving representative diplomatic and security think tank institutions from the 10 ASEAN countries.
The "Korea-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue," held for the second time this year, was launched during the 2019 Korea-ASEAN Special Summit with the aim of establishing a policy network of experts in diplomacy and security between Korea and ASEAN and strengthening public diplomacy policies toward ASEAN.
The 2nd Korea-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Korea National Diplomatic Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV). Considering the global spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) which makes face-to-face meetings impossible, it will be held in a hybrid video conference format.
In this video conference, experts from 10 think tanks belonging to the ASEAN-ISIS (ASEAN Institutes of Strategic and International Studies) will discuss topics such as the assessment and outlook of the regional strategic environment amid the spread of COVID-19 and the intensifying US-China strategic competition, directions for upgrading Korea's New Southern Policy, and ways to strengthen future Korea-ASEAN cooperation.

This "Korea-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue" is expected to strengthen the policy and academic foundation to sustain the momentum of friendly cooperative relations between Korea and ASEAN, and to reinforce the support base for the continuous promotion of Korea's New Southern Policy through the establishment of an expert policy network between Korea and ASEAN.
