Daegu City Announces Call for Entries for Adult Literacy Education Art Exhibition... Mayor's Award Winners: Kim Young-ja, Cho Sun-hee, Choi Soon-ja
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Daegu City held an awards ceremony on the 24th for the '2020 Daegu Adult Literacy Education Poetry and Painting Contest' held in September to celebrate 'Korea Literacy Month.'
According to Daegu City on the 28th, this year's contest, themed "One Step in Writing, Two Steps in Communication, Three Steps in Hope," saw participation from over 150 adult literacy education program learners, with 12 receiving awards. The award categories included 3 Mayor's Awards, 3 City Council Chairman's Awards, 3 Superintendent of Education Awards, and 3 Daegu Lifelong Education Promotion Institute Director's Awards.
The Mayor's Award recipients were Kim Young-ja (79, "The Joy of Taking Off the Iron Armor") from Happy School, Cho Sun-hee (79, "Still Spring") from Suseong-gu Lifelong Learning Center, and Choi Soon-ja (77, "A New Start in My Life") from Seongseo Senior Welfare Center. Among them, Cho Sun-hee was also honored with the Grand Prize (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award) at the 2020 National Adult Literacy Education Poetry and Painting Contest. The award-winning works can be viewed on the Daegu Lifelong Education Promotion Institute's online poetry and painting exhibition site.

Kang Myung-sook, Director of the Women's and Youth Education Bureau of Daegu City, stated, "The illiterate population in the Daegu area is approximately 250,000 people. We will continue to expand various literacy education projects to support the learning of literacy learners."
