Gwangjin-gu Installs 'Anti-Slip Wedges' on Sloped Parking Lots
Anti-slip wedges and guide signs installed in sloped public and resident-priority parking lots... Encouraging residents to use wedges when parking on slopes
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has completed the installation of anti-slip wheel chocks and warning signs in sloped parking lots within the district following the enforcement of the revised Parking Lot Act (commonly known as Hajun's Law) starting in June.
The recent amendment to the Parking Lot Act requires that when parking lots are installed on slopes, facilities to prevent vehicle slipping must be provided, and regular safety management inspections must be conducted.
Accordingly, the district identified the status of sloped parking lots and installed a total of 412 fixed and portable wheel chocks across 207 parking spaces, including 5 public parking spaces and 202 resident-priority parking spaces. Additionally, warning signs cautioning against slipping were installed in 11 parking lots.
The warning signs inform drivers of safety measures to take when parking or stopping on slopes, such as ▲using wheel chocks or wedges ▲engaging the parking brake ▲parking with the wheels turned toward the nearest wall.
District Mayor Kim Seon-gap stated, “This revision to the Parking Lot Act was proposed following a tragic accident involving a child three years ago. We urge everyone to use the installed wheel chocks when parking as intended. Especially for portable wheel chocks, please move them to a safe place after use so they do not obstruct pedestrians or other vehicles.”
Meanwhile, under the revised Parking Lot Act, existing parking lots must comply by December 26, and newly constructed parking lots must be equipped with anti-slip safety facilities at the time of construction. Violations may result in a ban on general parking lot use for up to six months and fines of up to 3 million KRW.
