King to Visit Japan Next Month with Chinese Foreign Minister
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] Wang Yi, China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister in charge of diplomacy, is preparing to visit Japan next month.
According to major foreign media reports on the 27th, China and Japan are negotiating for State Councilor Wang to visit Japan as early as next month and hold talks with Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu.
Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide had his first phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 25th, just nine days after taking office. Following the news of State Councilor Wang's visit to Japan, there is speculation that China and Japan will discuss cooperation measures.
State Councilor Wang is also expected to meet with Prime Minister Suga during his visit to Japan.
In early next month, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is also scheduled to visit Japan and meet with Prime Minister Suga.
Amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and China, Prime Minister Suga is expected to hold successive talks with the heads of diplomacy from both countries.
