Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) will officially launch the “AI Convergence Innovation Live Field Invitation Free Exploration” program on October 10, allowing about 600 local youths to experience AI science sites such as smart farms (urban agriculture) and drones on campus for free.
The program is promoted as part of the Science Culture Activity Support Project by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, with Dongmyung University being the only institution selected in the Busan area.
It aims to enhance the achievement motivation of underprivileged youth in the Busan area and to encourage self-esteem and career exploration.
Dongmyung University, in co-hosting with the Busan Science Culture Promotion Association, will invite about 600 local youths to participate in a relay-style AI convergence innovation science culture program including ▲smart farms (urban agriculture) ▲drones ▲makerspaces ▲and everyday astronomy until December.
The first exploration will be held on October 10 with a drone experience academy for 30 elementary students at Suyeong-gu Youth Culture House and an AI convergence smart farm academy for 37 elementary students at Buk-gu Youth Culture House.
Through the drone experience, participants will receive theoretical education on flight theory, drone-related occupations and future prospects, drone usage methods, and simulations, followed by practical training in drone flight, mission execution, and aerial photography.
The smart farm experience includes touring unique urban agriculture (smart farm) facilities where growth environments such as temperature, humidity, light intensity, carbon dioxide emission, fresh air inflow, humidification, and dehumidification are remotely controlled via smartphones. Participants will also directly harvest the AI mushroom “Dongmyung Amigo” cultivated using an artificial intelligence system.
The makerspace experience covers education on the operating principles of holograms, VR/hologram virtual reality experiences, making personalized LED yoyos using 3D printers and LED diodes, and creating light aircraft using 3D pens.
The everyday astronomy experience involves learning about everyday astronomy and the types and principles of astronomical telescopes. Participants will have opportunities for telescope assembly explanations and practice, as well as celestial observation using a 150mm refracting telescope inside a 6.3m astronomical dome.
Participants in this exploration include groups from ▲Suyeong-gu Youth Culture House ▲Buk-gu Youth Culture House ▲Gijang-gun Youth Training Center ▲Saha-gu Youth Culture House ▲Busanjin-gu Youth Culture House ▲Busanjin-gu Youth Culture Center ▲Haeundae Youth Training Center ▲Bansong 2-dong Youth Culture House ▲Sasang-gu Youth Training Center ▲Hamjigol Youth Training Center ▲Gudeok Youth Training Center ▲Geumjeong Youth Training Center ▲Busanjin-gu Youth Culture House ▲Suyeong-gu Youth Culture House ▲Gijang-gun Youth Training Center ▲Haeundae Youth Training Center ▲Geumjeong Youth Training Center.
Jeong Hong-seop, president of Dongmyung University, which recently intensified its AI convergence innovation initiatives as a university direction, said, “Through the AI convergence innovation science culture field exploration, many young science talents will take a big step forward to become leaders of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
Dongmyung University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation (Director Jeong Ki-ho) was selected in July for this year’s Science Culture Activity Support Project by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity with the “AI Convergence Innovation Live Field Local Youth Invitation Exploration Project.”
The support budget is 30 million KRW, and the project is led by Professor Park Soo-young, director of Dongmyung University Community Collaboration Center.
