Managing Dental Health Remotely in the COVID-19 Era
Seoul Gangseo-gu Operates Non-Face-to-Face Oral Health Education Project...Provides Children's Oral Health Education Videos and Activity Materials
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is converting its existing oral health education program to a non-face-to-face format to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and practice social distancing in daily life.
First, the district produced a children's oral education video titled "Precious Dental Health, I Protect It Myself," which is easily accessible to anyone through the KakaoTalk channel.
"Precious Dental Health, I Protect It Myself" is a session to learn about oral health together with children, covering the importance of oral health, proper tooth brushing, dental health and food, and oral care methods.
The video can be viewed by searching for "Gangseo-gu Oral Health Center" in the KakaoTalk search bar at the top and accessing the channel.
Additionally, the district operates the "Dental Health Package Project" to be used along with video education materials at schools and facilities related to infants and young children.
The "Dental Health Package Project" provides packages containing oral health education supplies to elementary schools, kindergartens, and daycare centers in the district. Following the instructions included in the package, children can learn proper tooth brushing and other oral hygiene methods.
The package contains teaching materials for instructors, activity sheets for children (oral health OX quiz, food sticker activity sheets, tooth brushing pledge chart, etc.), and educational mouthwash.
After watching the "Precious Dental Health, I Protect It Myself" video, children can review using the sticker activity sheets included in the package and use the educational mouthwash to directly check the condition inside their mouths, such as food residue, in a mirror.
Elementary schools and infant-related facilities wishing to participate in the "Dental Health Package Project" can apply to the Medical Affairs Division of Gangseo-gu Health Center by the 29th of this month.
Detailed information can be found on the "Gangseo-gu Office website - News Plaza - Notices/News" section.
A district official stated, "Since it is a period when visiting health centers or dental clinics is difficult due to the spread of COVID-19, making oral care easy to neglect, we have prepared a non-face-to-face education program for children's oral health management." They added, "We will continue to strive to help children form healthy oral health habits by utilizing various media."
