Attempted Murder Suspect Dies After Taking Medication at Police Station... Police Launch Internal Investigation
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] An attempted murder suspect died after taking medication while awaiting detention in a police holding cell following arrest.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 23rd that they are conducting an internal investigation into the death of Mr. A, a man in his 40s suspected of attempted murder.
On the 21st at around 10:30 PM, Mr. A stabbed the victim with a weapon at a bar in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. After being arrested and awaiting detention, he requested permission to take his medication, which the police officers granted.
After taking the medication, Mr. A showed abnormal reactions, and the police transported him to a nearby hospital. However, he passed away at around 3 AM on the 22nd.
The initial autopsy indicated the cause of death as a heart condition, but the second autopsy revealed it was 'death due to medication.' A police official stated, "The medication Mr. A took is not a narcotic," adding, "However, it is difficult to disclose what the medication identified in the autopsy was."
