"Fruit Also in Small Packages"... Shinsegae Food Launches Small-Packaged Sliced Melon
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Shinsegae Food announced on the 22nd that it has launched a small-packaged fruit for single-person households called ‘Fresh Club Now Melon Honeydew.’
Shinsegae Food recently focused on the growing popularity of small-packaged fruits that require no separate preparation or cleanup, especially among single-person households. According to Shinsegae Food, sales of small-packaged fruits in July and August increased by 102% compared to the same period last year.
In particular, pineapples and melons, which were difficult to purchase and store due to their large size and weight and burdensome peeling process, showed a significant increase of 108% and 60%, respectively. This trend is attributed to the fact that these fruits are neatly packaged in portions suitable for one to two people, making them convenient to eat. Additionally, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the increased time spent at home has led to higher demand for small-packaged cut fruits as a convenient snack alternative.

In line with this trend, Shinsegae Food has launched Fresh Club Now Melon Honeydew, which features seasonally harvested American honeydew melon cut and packaged in small portions. The honeydew melon is cut into bite-sized pieces and packaged in 200g portions suitable for one person, enhancing convenience. Especially, it has a higher sugar content and softer flesh than regular melons, making it an ideal snack for all ages. It is sold nationwide at E-Mart stores, priced at 3,980 KRW (200g).
