View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Shin Dong-geun, a Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the People Power Party this time regarding the expulsion of Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Hong-gul, saying, "Do as much as the Democratic Party has done." People Power Party lawmakers Park Deok-heum, Jo Soo-jin, and Yoon Chang-hyun are each embroiled in controversies over allegations of winning construction contracts from supervised institutions, failure to report assets, and conflicts of interest with Samsung C&T, respectively.
In an interview on the MBC radio program "Kim Jong-bae's Focus" on the 21st, Supreme Council Member Shin said, "The opposition party's criticism of 'scapegoating' is just baseless nitpicking."
He pointed out, "There is a similar case with lawmaker Jo. This person omitted 1.1 billion won in cash assets, including allegations of private bonds," adding, "The process of forming 3 billion won in assets is also questionable, but no action has been taken, yet they criticize the expulsion of lawmaker Kim. I would understand if they expelled lawmaker Jo first and then made such remarks."
Regarding the allegations against lawmaker Park, he criticized, "This is the largest and worst conflict of interest case in the history of the National Assembly." Supreme Council Member Shin said, "It could be a violation of the Public Officials Ethics Act or the Anti-Corruption Act, and in some ways, it might even constitute a third-party bribery offense," emphasizing, "The People Power Party must promptly take appropriate measures. Reassigning lawmaker Park from the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee to the Environment and Labor Committee is, in my view, just pretending to address the issue."
He also expressed concern about lawmaker Yoon, saying, "A serious conflict of interest could arise." Supreme Council Member Shin stated, "I cannot say that lawmaker Yoon should resign, but at least he should step down from the Political Affairs Committee, and the People Power Party must explain the nomination process." Lawmaker Yoon is a former outside director of Samsung C&T and is in charge of reviewing laws related to Samsung's governance structure on the Political Affairs Committee, which has sparked conflict of interest controversies.

Regarding lawmaker Lee Sang-jik, who was referred to the party's ethics inspection team over the 'Eastar incident,' he said, "We are taking this seriously because it goes against the party's labor policies, principles, and values." Supreme Council Member Shin added, "Since entering the Lee Nak-yeon leadership system, the party's stance has been to respond swiftly to internal discipline and suspicions," emphasizing, "We will thoroughly address this issue. I believe it must be resolved at least before Chuseok."
