Highway Gas Stations Begin Replacing IC Card Terminals to Prevent Hacking
Magnetic Card System Discontinued at Chiak Gas Station on Jungang Expressway Chuncheon Direction
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Young-wook] The Chiak Gas Station on the Chuncheon-bound Central Expressway, managed by Korea Expressway Corporation Jecheon Branch, announced on the 19th that it has switched from the existing magnetic card system to an IC card terminal system to enhance customer card information security.
The mandatory transition to the IC card terminal system for self-service gas stations and LPG charging stations was originally set to be completed by July 21, but financial authorities granted a one-year grace period considering the management crisis in the fuel industry caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
