WTO Secretary-General Election Preliminary Round, Results Expected on the 18th
[Asia Economy Reporter Seong Gi-ho] The World Trade Organization (WTO) is expected to announce the results of the first round of the next Director-General election on the 18th (local time).
The WTO Secretariat stated in a notice delivered to reporters on the 17th, "An informal General Council meeting and delegation meeting will be held on Friday (18th) morning."
Accordingly, David Walker, Chair of the WTO General Council, who oversees the election process in the General Council, is expected to announce the candidates who passed the first round of the Director-General election. Although the announcement was initially expected to be made during the week starting on the 21st, the schedule appears to have been moved up since the Director-General position has been vacant since the 1st of this month.

Eight candidates, including Yoo Myung-hee, Head of Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, are running in this Director-General election. Three candidates with lower preference will be eliminated in the first round, and the remaining five will advance to the second round. The final decision is expected to be made by early November at the latest.
