The Fourth Site of the Korean New Deal, Visiting Changwon Industrial Complex to Encourage Companies... Also Participated in Doosan Heavy Industries Gas Turbine Assembly Demonstration
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 17th, President Moon Jae-in, during his visit to the Changwon National Industrial Complex, stated, "Today, here in Changwon, I want to introduce to the people the hope of South Korea's economy in the post-COVID era, the hope of the economy, and the progress of South Korea's economy despite the difficulties caused by COVID." He added, "The world is now focusing on digital and green sectors and is rapidly preparing for the post-COVID era. In our country, Changwon is taking the lead."
President Moon's visit to the Changwon Industrial Complex on this day was his fourth field visit since the announcement of the Korean New Deal project. He expressed high expectations, saying that Changwon would become a symbolic region practicing the Smart New Deal project. President Moon said, "If we can increase productivity through data networks and artificial intelligence while simultaneously producing clean energy to reduce environmental energy, it would be a great innovation in the industrial complex," and evaluated, "That great innovation is happening at the Changwon Industrial Complex."
On this day, President Moon presided over the 'Smart Green Industrial Complex Report Meeting' at the Changwon Industrial Complex and visited tenant companies such as Taerim Industry and Doosan Heavy Industries. The Smart Green Industrial Complex project aims to create a future-oriented innovative industrial complex that goes beyond the basic stage of manufacturing innovation development in industrial complexes?individual companies' smartification (smart factories) and the development stage of industrial complexes' smartification (smart industrial complexes)?to an advanced stage where green industries are integrated.
This event is the fourth on-site activity of the Korean New Deal following the comprehensive plan announcement on July 14, including the Data Dam (June 18), Green Energy and Offshore Wind Power (July 17), and Green Smart School (August 18). The Blue House explained, "By visiting the Changwon Industrial Complex, which has excellent conditions to quickly transition existing industrial complexes into 'Smart Green Industrial Complexes,' this visit aims to officially announce the full-scale promotion of the 'Smart Green Industrial Complex' both domestically and internationally."
President Moon said, "The Smart Green Industrial Complex will transform from a follower economy to a leading economy, becoming a manufacturing innovation strategy and a compass for our economy. It will also revitalize the regional economy and serve as a national balanced development strategy. I send warm applause to the residents of Gyeongnam Province, citizens of Changwon, Gyeongnam companies, Governor Kim Kyung-soo, and all related parties who have taken bold challenges."
President Moon expressed, "South Korea is no longer the South Korea of yesterday. As an IT powerhouse, we are leading in unmanned economies such as hydrogen vehicles, and we are leading the world not only in 5G but also in COVID-19 prevention. The Smart Green Industrial Complex, a symbol of the Korean New Deal, will be the main player in the K-economy in the post-COVID era."
Before the event, President Moon visited Taerim Industry, which has been manufacturing automobile parts in the Changwon Industrial Complex for over 30 years. After hearing explanations about research and development efforts through smartification, he inspected the smart factory and encouraged workers on site. A data center for inter-company data analysis and sharing is planned to be built at Taerim Industry.
Meanwhile, President Moon visited the gas turbine factory of Doosan Heavy Industries, a company promoting the Green New Deal in the Changwon Industrial Complex, and listened to the status of renewable energy projects such as hydrogen and offshore wind power, which Doosan Heavy Industries is focusing on as new strategic fields, as well as the power generation gas turbine business.
