NSC Standing Committee Meeting "Continued Efforts for the Development of Korea-Japan Relations"
Checking the Security Situation Around the Korean Peninsula
The Blue House announced on the 17th that it held a Standing Committee meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) chaired by Suh Hoon, Director of the National Security Office, and agreed to continuously strive for the development of Korea-Japan relations.
At the meeting, the NSC Standing Committee members reviewed the recent situation around the Korean Peninsula and issues related to the Korea-US alliance, and also discussed measures to stably manage South Korea's diplomatic and security situation.
Meanwhile, President Moon Jae-in sent a congratulatory letter on the 16th to Prime Minister Suga on his inauguration, expressing his willingness to resolve Korea-Japan relations through dialogue. In the letter, President Moon emphasized, "I am ready to sit down and talk anytime."
Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, said, "This afternoon, President Moon sent a congratulatory letter to newly appointed Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to congratulate him on his inauguration and conveyed the intention to work together to further develop Korea-Japan relations during Prime Minister Suga's tenure. He said that not only do we share fundamental values and strategic interests, but also that we are ready to sit down and communicate with the Japanese government, which is our closest friend geographically and culturally, at any time, and we expect active response from the Japanese side."
