POSCO Completes 'Steel Bridge' in Vietnam
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] POSCO announced on the 17th that it has completed the 'Steel Bridge,' a railway-made bridge, for the villagers in the Cai Rang area of Can Tho city, Vietnam, where social overhead capital (SOC) infrastructure is relatively underdeveloped.
At the Vietnam Steel Bridge completion ceremony held that day, only a minimal number of attendees participated due to COVID-19 considerations, including Yoon Hoon, CEO of POSCO Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Chuc Linh, Vice Chairman of the Cai Rang People's Committee, and Park Seon-jong, head of the Korea Food for the Hungry International Vietnam branch.
This Steel Bridge completion marks the third project following the 2016 project in Tan Tan district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Vietnam, and the 2017 project in Ye Wa village, Myanmar.
The newly completed Steel Bridge is 4.5 meters wide and 18 meters long, applying prefabricated modular bridge technology where necessary components are manufactured at a local factory, then transported, assembled, and installed at the construction site.
POSCO and Ho Chi Minh transportation authorities jointly developed a modular small bridge model according to Vietnamese design standards, designed for rapid construction in locations where bringing in heavy equipment is difficult due to poor site conditions. In particular, major bridge components such as the deck and girders (horizontal structures supporting the bridge deck) are pre-manufactured in the factory, ensuring quality and safety.
At the event, CEO Yoon Hoon said, "By replacing the aging bridge with the Steel Bridge, we hope to improve the convenience of residents' lives and further become a bridge connecting Korea and Vietnam."
POSCO plans to go beyond community contribution activities by continuously cooperating with Can Tho city to create safe residential areas focusing on underdeveloped regions, while also pioneering markets for steel products to realize shared value.

Since 2009, POSCO has continuously carried out the POSCO Steel Village project in overseas business sites such as Thailand, Myanmar, and Indonesia, utilizing POSCO Group's steel materials and construction methods to build houses, bridges, and welfare facilities. In Vietnam, from 2014 for three years, POSCO created a Steel Village consisting of 104 houses for low-income families, steel playgrounds, and Steel Bridges, which was registered in 2018 as an excellent case of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).
