Jeonbuk Province Secures 21.5 Billion KRW in National Funding for Urban Regeneration New Deal Project
Among a total of 23 locations nationwide, 4 selected in Jeonbuk... the highest number selected nationwide
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Tae-in] Jeollabuk-do secured 21.5 billion KRW in national funding after all four urban regeneration New Deal project applications submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in June to revitalize declining areas within the province were selected.
According to Jeollabuk-do on the 16th, four sites were selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's urban regeneration New Deal projects: Jeonju City's △ Intangible Cultural Heritage Complex Cultural Facility Construction △ Mutual Care Platform Development, Iksan City's △ Rest Stop 'Namjung', and Imsil County's △ Osu Creative Growth Workshop.
In the nationwide selection results by metropolitan cities and provinces, Jeollabuk-do and Chungcheongbuk-do each had four sites selected, Jeollanam-do three sites, Gyeonggi-do two sites, and Chungcheongnam-do two sites, enabling the projects to proceed in earnest.
Jeollabuk-do plans to invest a total of 182.1 billion KRW, including 21.5 billion KRW in national funds over the next four years, to create regeneration hub spaces in the old downtown areas that have lost vitality and declined, thereby revitalizing these old urban centers.
Starting this year, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport intends to reduce the proportion of large-scale projects such as the existing central business district type and increase the proportion of highly executable projects like recognized projects.
Accordingly, Jeollabuk-do proactively responded to the call for proposals by discovering projects suited to the Ministry's criteria and regional characteristics through local governments and related institutions within the province, enhancing the completeness of project plans through frequent expert advice and consultations.
From June, when the Ministry's call for proposals was finalized, Jeollabuk-do applied using the prepared project plans and actively responded by highlighting the validity and feasibility of the projects through three rounds of evaluations by the Ministry?document review, on-site inspection, and presentation.
Additionally, through frequent external recommendations to central government ministries and related agencies, the project eligibility was verified, and the projects successfully passed the deliberation and resolution of the '32nd Urban Regeneration Special Committee (under the Prime Minister),' confirming the final implementation of the selected projects.
Meanwhile, Jeollabuk-do is conducting preliminary expert consultations on planned project sites in preparation for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's second half call for proposals scheduled for October. The province is committed to making every effort to have multiple projects selected.
