Mackerel That Came to the Mart, 'Smartphone' Knows Everything
Busan City Launches Blockchain-Based Smart Marine Logistics Platform Pilot Service
Traceability of Seafood Distribution, Origin, and Storage Temperature Accessible via Smartphone
Future-Oriented Logistics Service Verified by Customers... Vision for
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] When you pick this fish at a local mart, when and where was it caught, and in what condition did it arrive here?
This curiosity is expected to be resolved soon. The smartphone knows all the processes from when the mackerel is caught at sea, auctioned at the fish market, passes through distributors, and finally reaches retail stores.
The demonstration of the "Blockchain-based Smart Marine Logistics Platform Service," one of the innovative projects under the "Busan Blockchain Regulatory Free Zone," will begin on the 17th.
The "Blockchain-based Smart Marine Logistics Platform Service" records all information about the distribution process of seafood such as mackerel and anglerfish from production sites to retail stores on the blockchain, allowing consumers to conveniently check it via smartphone.
Since seafood is sensitive to temperature and prone to spoilage at room temperature, it must be transported and stored in a refrigerated state. Until now, consumers could only verify the origin when purchasing seafood and had no way to check temperature changes during distribution.
This project records all information generated during the seafood distribution process (temperature, humidity, origin, radiation, impact, door opening, location information, etc.) on the blockchain, making it easy for anyone to verify via smartphone.
Because information recorded on the blockchain is difficult to modify or delete, consumers can trust and confidently purchase the products.
By automatically implementing the seafood delivery-inspection-payment process through "smart contracts," the project reduces processing time and costs for producers, distributors, and logistics operators, enabling trustworthy transactions between businesses.
Through this project, by building a smart cold chain platform that gains consumer trust and enables rapid processing, local small and medium-sized distribution and logistics businesses have gained the capability to compete with large distribution companies.
Busan City plans to actively expand the application areas and product range from the second half of 2021, when the demonstration project concludes.

Through cooperation with logistics specialists and industry-specific distribution companies, the project will pursue relocation and expansion to other local governments. From 2022, the scope of the project will expand beyond the seafood distribution logistics market to include agricultural products, livestock products, dairy products, and pharmaceuticals, collaborating with specialized companies.
