View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Jeon Hong-pyo, a member of the Changwon City Council in Gyeongnam, urged the prompt completion of Wolyeongdae and Wolyeong Square, designated as Gyeongnam Monument No. 125, during his 5-minute free speech at the 1st plenary session of the 98th extraordinary meeting held on the 15th.
Wolyeongdae is the place where Choi Chiwon, a great scholar and writer of the late Silla period, used to spend time. It is located at 442 Bambatgogae, Masanhappo-gu. This place is regarded as the best spot to enjoy the scenery of Happo Bay.
According to Councilman Jeon, by attributing the meaning of the moon to Wolyeongdae, one can recognize the long history and tradition of Changwon through the teacher’s heritage and relics in Wolyeong-dong, Banwol-dong, Wolpo-dong, and Wanwol-dong. Since 2012, the city has been promoting the Wolyeong Square construction project with the purpose of enhancing the symbolism of the western entrance plaza and creating a cultural and rest exchange space.
Councilman Jeon pointed out that Wolyeong Square started with the selection of the Urban Vitality Promotion Area Development Project in 2013 and has taken a long time until the cultural property alteration permit was granted in June this year, mentioning that the project progress is very slow.
Regarding Wolyeong Square, Councilman Jeon said, “It is a transportation hub like a gateway to Changwon City where five roads intersect, including National Road No. 14 connecting western Gyeongnam such as Jinju, Tongyeong, and Geoje, and city roads. Local governments nationwide that have heritage related to Choi Chiwon have already strengthened character marketing using the teacher, but Wolyeongdae and Wolyeong Square are still left desolately neglected.”
