Gwangju Cultural Foundation Significantly Shifts Second Half Events Online
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Cultural Foundation announced on the 15th that it will significantly shift its scheduled events for the second half of the year to non-face-to-face online formats to ensure that artistic creative activities are not reduced.
It also plans to expand and adjust the schedule to hold many events postponed in the first half of the year together in the second half.
The Bitgoeul Citizen Culture Center will film the scheduled lectures and performances and broadcast them through the Gwangju Cultural Foundation TV on YouTube.
The Bitgoeul Lecture Concert began online streaming on the 10th with a pre-recorded and edited video of Kim Yumi, CEO of The Asian, titled “Collaboration of Korean Creative Ballet Incorporating Classical Ballet.”
On the 24th, it will release online a video of Professor Kim Hee-jung from Sangmyung University titled “The Sound of Silence, the Music of Silence: Women Hidden in History and Music,” and on the 15th of next month, a video of Professor Jo Eun-ah from Kyung Hee University titled “Yun Isang, the Camellia Tree of Dongbaekrim.”
The “Monday Concert” themed around Mozart in the second half of this year will also be screened online as audience-free recorded videos.
Starting on the 21st with DMC Art Company’s “1791, Mozart’s Last Letter,” performances by Clavinova, Gwangju Opera Company, Lang String Quartet, Chinchin Classic, and others will be presented 10 times every Monday at 7:30 PM via Gwangju Cultural Foundation TV.
Performances by Brassing, Ensemble Soave, and Ensemble P&S, which were prepared with a Beethoven theme in the first half but postponed, will be screened every Monday starting November 30.
The Open Theater on Culture Day will also stream a pre-recorded video of Yeongtax’s “Jazz Cloudy Night” on the 23rd.
The Traditional Culture Center will operate its flagship program “Mudeung Ulim,” scheduled for October 16?18, as an untact (contactless) festival.
Exhibition programs such as “Hope Ulim’s Sotdae and Skill Displayed on Roof Tiles,” the opening celebration performance by Taepyeongseongdae, and various fusion planned performances will be delivered live online.
In November, an archive exhibition of painter Oh Ji-ho, who was a pioneer of modern and contemporary Korean art alongside Mudeungsan, and events including lectures on his life and work will be held non-face-to-face.
The traditional culture convergence program “Mudeung Pungnyu Den” will also be broadcast live every Saturday and Sunday from late this month or early next month via the Traditional Culture Center’s Facebook and Instagram, featuring exhibitions and storytelling by intangible cultural heritage holders and performances.
The traditional cultural arts experience program Pungnyu Nori will gather the spirit of Chuseok’s abundance and overcoming COVID-19 by holding a Chuseok lantern exhibition and photo zone, and preparing an online craft-making experience in a non-face-to-face format.
The representative street performance arts festival, Gwangju Fringe Festival, will seek new ways to adapt to the reality where enjoying outdoor performances as usual has become difficult.
Reflecting the frozen local arts scene due to COVID-19, performances by about 60 groups, including local performing groups selected through an open call, will be showcased every weekend from the 25th on the Gwangju Fringe Festival YouTube channel.
Depending on the spread of COVID-19, small-scale face-to-face performances and non-face-to-face video performances will be pursued simultaneously.
Additionally, the Jeong Yul-seong Music Festival will reinterpret Jeong Yul-seong’s music through non-face-to-face performances and concerts, which will be recorded and then streamed online.
