[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jeonghwan] Last year, the dropout rate among students in the Ulsan region was the lowest among the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide.
The dropout rate refers to the percentage of students in elementary, middle, and high schools who quit school due to maladjustment, illness, or other reasons.
The dropout rate in the Ulsan region has recorded the lowest rate nationwide for six consecutive years since 2014.
According to the Ministry of Education's survey on the status of nationwide dropouts for the 2019 academic year, Ulsan recorded a dropout rate of 0.55% among all students, with a dropout rate due to maladjustment of 0.27%.
This is a slight decrease compared to the 2018 academic year's dropout rate of 0.58% and maladjustment dropout rate of 0.31%.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education provides customized program support for students at risk of dropping out.
They operate various commissioned educational institutions focused on alternative education, career and vocational training, and home-based Wee centers. The office also promotes alternative classrooms within schools, operates schools focused on dropout prevention, and runs a dropout consideration system, all of which are analyzed by the education office to have been effective in preventing dropouts.
The education office continues to carry out projects to prevent school dropouts.
Especially this year, due to concerns over the spread of infectious diseases delaying school reopening, the education office has established an on-site support system and expanded customized consulting for high-risk students.
