7-Eleven Launches 'Sumine Convenience Meal' Series Featuring Kim Sumi's Recipes
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Seven Eleven announced on the 15th that it will launch a ready-to-eat meal series featuring recipes by actress Kim Sumi, who serves as the 'Taste' ambassador.
The Sumi's Ready Meal series introduced by Seven Eleven consists of four types: 'Sumi's Hearty Lunchbox,' 'Sumi's Party Noodles,' and 'Sumi's Sundaeguk (Sundae only/Assorted Sundae).' Actress Kim Sumi participated in the entire launch process, from product planning and recipe development to taste evaluation.
First, 'Sumi's Hearty Lunchbox (5,000 KRW)' is a lunchbox with a home-cooked meal concept that captures the touch of a mother's hand. It is generously composed of side dishes made famous on professional cooking programs by Kim Sumi. It includes eight types of home-style side dishes such as spicy stir-fried pork, grilled short rib patties, tangpyeongchae (seasoned vegetable dish), and assorted jeon (Korean pancakes), providing a satisfying meal.
'Sumi's Party Noodles (3,500 KRW)' is a product named with Kim Sumi's direct involvement, cleverly expressing festive noodles. It contains rich anchovy broth and chewy noodles, topped generously with various garnishes such as carrots, zucchini, and eggs. The noodle weight is about 1.5 times that of regular instant noodles, making it a hearty meal.
'Sumi's Sundaeguk (4,900 KRW)' features a savory and rich broth made from concentrated pork stock. It includes fully stuffed glutinous rice sausage (chal sundae), glass noodles, and vegetables, replicating the taste and quality of specialty restaurants. Particularly, perilla seed powder and seasoning powder made using Kim Sumi's recipe are separately packaged to allow consumers to enjoy it according to their preference. 'Sumi's Sundaeguk' is available in two types: the sundae-only version and the assorted sundae version containing head meat and osorigamtu (pork brain).
To commemorate the launch of the Sumi's Ready Meal series, Seven Eleven will hold a social network service (SNS) event from the 16th to the 25th. To participate, customers need to purchase 'Sumi's Hearty Lunchbox' or 'Sumi's Party Noodles' and post a tasting review on SNS. Thirty winners will be selected by lottery to receive a 10,000 KRW Seven Eleven mobile gift certificate.
Meanwhile, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), consumers are refraining from outdoor activities and increasing local consumption. As a result, lunchbox sales from September 1 to 14 increased by 26.3% compared to the previous year. Starting with this launch, Seven Eleven plans to continuously release ready-to-eat products in collaboration with food ambassador Kim Sumi.
