[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Jeju Development Corporation, which sells Jeju Samdasoo, has been selected as an excellent innovative local public institution for its eco-friendly efforts spanning all stages from production to consumption and upcycling.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation, which produces and sells Jeju Samdasoo, announced on the 15th that it was selected as an excellent innovative institution in the ‘2020 Excellent Innovative Local Public Institution’ evaluation conducted by the Local Public Enterprise Evaluation Institute of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
In this evaluation, Jeju Development Corporation was highly praised for establishing a foundation of social responsibility management through the project titled ‘Recycling Samdasoo! Upcycling Jeju! Realizing a Plastic Free Island.’
The corporation has continuously strived to build an eco-friendly product production system, starting with lightweighting the Korean national bottled water Jeju Samdasoo, using single-material clear PET bottles, introducing label tear lines, practicing plastic resource reduction, obtaining excellent recycling grades, and applying environmental product declarations to Samdasoo production.
In particular, it is continuously promoting various projects to realize a resource-circulating society, such as expanding plastic separation and collection projects involving residents, upcycling marine waste, and producing eco-friendly bags using waste plastic.
This excellent institution selection was the result of a strict three-stage evaluation of 382 voluntary innovation tasks submitted by local public institutions nationwide, with only 30 institutions finally selected as excellent innovative institutions.
The excellent innovative institutions, including Jeju Development Corporation, will undergo a final evaluation online on the 22nd and attend the ‘2020 Innovation Performance Concert’ held by the Local Public Enterprise Evaluation Institute on the 25th, where the best institution will be selected and exemplary cases shared.
