"Contributing to Expanding Employment for Disabled Persons"... 7 Companies Selected for 'True Company' Award
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled announced on the 14th the selection of the '2020 True Company' award-winning companies in celebration of the 30th anniversary of employment for persons with disabilities.
The True Company award is a commendation system that grants the Minister of Employment and Labor Award to companies and institutions that have diligently worked to expand employment for persons with disabilities.
This year, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of employment for persons with disabilities, the selection criteria were expanded to include not only companies and institutions that signed employment promotion agreements with the Agency but also those that promoted employment for persons with disabilities in cooperation with the Agency. The number of selected companies, which was limited to five or fewer annually, was increased to seven.
This year, SK Co., Ltd. was selected as the grand prize winner of the True Company award. The gold prize was awarded to the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service and Amkor Technology Korea, the silver prize to the Korea Veterans Welfare and Medical Service and Osstem Implant, and the bronze prize to Korea National Oil Corporation and Sangwon Medical Foundation Bupyeong Himchan Hospital, totaling seven companies.
SK Co., Ltd. maintained a severe disability ratio of over 50% among all disabled workers and was honored with the grand prize for its field-centered efforts in employing persons with disabilities, including conducting the Seed Program (SIAT, customized training) for IT professional workforce development in cooperation with the Agency.
The company’s efforts to discover additional job roles such as barista and mail management beyond the IT sector in collaboration with the Agency were also highly evaluated. In the case of barista recruitment, customized training was provided jointly with the Agency to enhance the expertise of persons with disabilities, and all 36 graduates were directly employed, contributing to the creation of social value.
The Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service received the gold prize in recognition of its achievements in signing a disability employment promotion agreement with the Agency last year and conducting special recruitment for persons with disabilities. Following the agreement, active efforts in hiring persons with disabilities resulted in 108 disabled workers and a 3.47% employment rate last year.
Amkor Technology Korea continues to fulfill its corporate social responsibility by developing customized job roles for hiring persons with severe disabilities, employing a total of 84 persons with disabilities last year.
Utilizing the Agency’s supported employment, disability internship system, and training programs, the company expanded employment for persons with severe disabilities by developing job roles such as managing the Dysem Mat (foreign substance removal equipment) and dormitory and welfare building management.
The True Company awards ceremony will be conducted through direct visits by the Agency to companies and institutions to gather on-site opinions regarding employment for persons with disabilities.
