550,000 Households Receive 'Emergency Living Funds' Support... 200,000 Won per Person, 1,000,000 Won for 4 People
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The government will provide emergency living expenses to 550,000 households (880,000 people) facing livelihood crises due to the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Additionally, it will offer job opportunities and employment support to 5,000 low-income working poor with work capacity.
Included in the 7.8 trillion won scale of the 4th supplementary budget bill, which the government approved at an extraordinary Cabinet meeting on the 10th, is 400 billion won for emergency livelihood support for low-income groups (890,000 people).
First, emergency living expenses will be provided to 550,000 crisis households struggling with livelihood difficulties due to income reduction caused by unemployment or business suspension/closure: 400,000 won for one person, 600,000 won for two persons, 800,000 won for three persons, and 1,000,000 won for four or more persons.
However, households that have already benefited from emergency support programs for the same reason (such as Small Business New Hope Fund, Emergency Employment Stability Subsidy, etc.) are excluded.
The government plans to relax the requirements compared to the emergency welfare system and provide support as quickly as possible.
In addition, local governments will actively identify and support various types of households in livelihood crises. These include those who do not meet the COVID-19 tailored emergency support criteria, those excluded from emergency welfare due to exceeding asset standards, those who do not meet job-seeking benefit eligibility, and households of long-term unemployed whose job-seeking benefits have been suspended.
Along with this, jobs will be provided to 5,000 low-income individuals with work capacity (below 75% of median income) who have not participated in existing self-support projects (below 50% of median income).
Through 15 metropolitan self-support centers in cities and provinces, short-term jobs (1.8 million won per month) will be offered for two months, and after completion, a retention incentive of 200,000 won will be paid.
