"20,000 Signatures Urge Dismissal of Chu Mi-ae... Cheongwadae Response Still Uncertain"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Two public petitions calling for the dismissal of Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae have each garnered over 200,000 signatures as of last month. This meets the Blue House's response criteria, but as of the 10th, the Blue House has yet to issue a response.
On the Blue House's public petition board, a petition titled "Impeach Minister Choo Mi-ae" was posted on July 14. This petition, which closed on the 13th of last month, received approximately 219,000 signatures. The petitioner criticized, "She disregards President Moon Jae-in's dignity and the entire nation, acting as if she were a king with absolute authority," adding, "We have never seen or heard of such a Justice Minister in history."
On the 23rd of the same month, a similar petition was posted. Under the title "We Petition for the Dismissal of Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae," the petitioner stated, "Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae is engaging in politics rather than upholding the rule of law," and claimed, "The general consensus is that Minister Choo's conduct, who should maintain fairness and political neutrality, disqualifies her from serving as Justice Minister." This petition received about 247,000 signatures.

All these petitions appeared before allegations of preferential treatment involving Minister Choo's son in the military surfaced. No petitions related to these subsequent allegations have been posted yet. According to policy, the Blue House is required to respond within 30 days to petitions with over 200,000 signatures. However, the Blue House has not responded to these earlier petitions even after nearly a month.
