Dongjak-gu Mayor Lee Chang-woo Takes Initiative to Revitalize Local Economy Amid COVID-19 Response
Formed and Operating a Regional Economy Revitalization TF Team Until the End of the COVID-19 Situation... Established Plans for 4 Promotion Strategies and 29 Detailed Projects Including ▲Small Business Recovery Support ▲Expansion of Delivery Services ▲Good Consumption Campaign Tailored to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) has formed a TF team and established a comprehensive plan to revitalize the local economy to overcome the economic crisis caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
This plan was prepared in response to the urgent need for active policy implementation, including emergency support for small business owners facing closure due to the economic downturn, consumption promotion to stimulate domestic demand, resolution of employment instability, and support for low-income vulnerable groups.
To this end, the district formed a local economy revitalization TF team to operate until the situation ends, tasked with ▲ monitoring government and Seoul city economic policy trends ▲ identifying difficulties faced by small and medium enterprises and small business owners and devising countermeasures ▲ discovering and promoting policies to revitalize small business owners and the local economy.
The district set four promotion strategies to create a Dongjak where small business owners and neighborhood economies thrive: ▲ emergency support funds for small business owners ▲ consumption promotion and local economy revitalization ▲ strengthening social safety nets for employment and livelihood support ▲ enhancing self-reliance and growth capabilities, and will implement 29 detailed projects.
First, under emergency support funds for small business owners, plans include supporting costs for store demolition or restoration to original condition to help small business owners facing closure of leased stores to restart, and supporting reopening of stores damaged by COVID-19.
Financial burden reduction through long-term low-interest loans and neighborhood commercial district protection projects through win-win cooperation will also continue.
In the consumption promotion and local economy revitalization strategy, projects include promoting Zero Pay and consumption at affiliated stores, issuing Dongjak Love gift certificates, and delivery services for traditional markets and local stores to stimulate consumption within the region and revitalize daily commercial districts.
A district-wide good consumption movement will be promoted, along with discovering practical tasks for saving the local economy by each department adopting one local area, and continuing the staff dining day to encourage active consumption.
In strengthening social safety nets for employment and livelihood support, the district aims to revitalize the local economy through expanding new public sector job projects, providing customized vocational education based on resident demands by generation, and establishing a system to foster non-face-to-face industries and startups.
To support small business owners’ survival strategies in the untact era, efforts will be made to strengthen self-reliance and growth capabilities of small business owners through digital MD, online marketing and practical training for small business owners, and building a Dongjak-gu commercial district big data platform.
