Province to hold an emergency meeting with organizations and Nonghyup on the 9th to prevent concentration on specific crops such as winter radish
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 8th that it will prepare urgent agricultural support measures to stabilize the supply and demand of Jeju-grown winter vegetables damaged by the unusually long rainy season and three consecutive typhoons this year, and to reduce damage to farming households.
Governor Won Hee-ryong received a report on the on-site inspection results of Deputy Governor for Political Affairs Ko Young-kwon regarding typhoon damage and recovery status, and instructed to actively prepare supply and demand measures for winter vegetables.
Governor Won said, "Although there was continuous typhoon damage last year, we were able to reduce damage to farms and adjust crop supply and demand through fallow support and guidance on selecting green onion crops," and urged, "Please prepare active supply and demand measures for winter vegetables."
The province plans to hold a closed emergency countermeasure meeting on the 9th with representatives from major item-specific organizations, regional agricultural cooperatives, and administrative cities.
At the meeting, key issues will include measures to prevent the concentration phenomenon where specific crops such as winter radish are cultivated on farmland that should be replanted with green onions due to crop failure caused by natural disasters.
As of 9 a.m. on the 8th, farmland damaged by typhoons in the Jeju area registered in the National Disaster Management System (NDMS) was surveyed to be a total of 1,084 hectares, including winter radish.
