[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] SK Group affiliates have been consecutively filing trademarks related to artificial intelligence (AI), integrating AI services across various business sectors. As AI machine learning, introduced in most of SK's major businesses, advances, it is being utilized not only to improve productivity in existing businesses but also to discover new business models.
According to industry sources on the 8th, SK Group affiliates SK Gas and SK C&C recently registered trademarks for AI platform businesses named 'Wego' and 'Medical Insight Plus,' respectively.
SK Gas's AI service platform 'Wego,' scheduled for commercialization next year, is a system that connects with gas stations and automatically recognizes the remaining gas volume such as propane through AI, enabling proactive supply before orders are placed. It is expected to help efficiently supply small LPG storage tanks and LPG vehicle refueling stations, mainly for industrial sites, golf courses, villas, and military units, as well as to expand order volumes.
SK C&C's upcoming 'Medical Insight Plus' is an AI platform for healthcare. It plans to expand the healthcare AI currently used for cancer diagnosis and early detection of brain lesions to big data medical information analysis and new drug development.
SK Biopharm is also utilizing AI systems when simulating new drug development. Instead of manually experimenting with countless combinations of substances, AI conducts virtual experiments to derive optimal results. This approach achieves various benefits such as safety, time, and cost reduction.
SK Construction uses risk alert AI in securing overseas projects worth trillions of won, such as plants. When analyzing bid documents exceeding 10,000 pages in foreign languages, AI quickly and accurately analyzes the documents and identifies potential risk factors that could affect participation in the bidding process.
SK Hynix applies AI to improve yield rates. Using SK Telecom's object recognition AI technology called 'Supernova,' defective wafers are detected. Previously, semiconductor processes involved repeatedly photographing wafers multiple times and synthesizing the images, but with Supernova's deep learning algorithm, AI analyzes the images, significantly reducing the number of shots and processing time.
