Daegu City has been selecting and awarding seniors who serve as role models in the community, individuals who have contributed to the improvement of senior rights and welfare, and institutions/organizations every year for nine years. Since 2011, a total of 24 people have received awards across three categories.
Baek Jung-gi (88), selected as the Model Senior awardee, has been participating in the senior job project at the Daegu Southern Senior Protection Center. He has consistently engaged in senior rights advocacy activities, starting with elder abuse prevention projects, Silver Smile projects, and dispatching senior instructors. In particular, since 2017, he has served as the team leader of the No-No Care project group, carrying out support activities for marginalized groups.
Ahn Hyun-jin (35, female), selected as the Senior Welfare and Rights Improvement Contributor awardee, has been working since 2008 at the Daegu Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center to support seniors' emotional well-being by focusing on depression and suicide prevention and resolving sexual concerns. She has supported the development of various programs tailored to the needs of an aging society, including death preparation education, twilight childcare programs, and segmented approaches for ultra-aged seniors.

With about 20 members, they have formed one-on-one partnerships with over 50 seniors. Through this, they regularly make weekly check-in calls, prepare birthday celebrations, and conduct side dish volunteer activities more than twice a week for elderly individuals without family support who suffer from food insecurity.
This year's Senior Welfare Awards candidates were recommended by districts, counties, and related institutions and organizations from June 11 to July 10. Among 18 candidates, the awardees were selected by a merit review committee composed of media, academia, and external experts. The awards ceremony will be held on October 6 at 10 a.m. in the Palgong Hall of the Culture and Arts Center during the '24th Senior Citizens Day' commemorative event.
