Jeong Cheong-rae on Jeon Gwang-hoon's Reimprisonment News: "Self-Inflicted... Who Can We Blame?"
Jeon Gwang-hoon Reincarcerated After 140 Days Due to Bail Revocation... 30 Million Won Bail Forfeited
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon, head pastor of Sarang Jeil Church who led a large-scale rally on Liberation Day, was re-incarcerated on the 7th following the court's decision to revoke his bail. In response, Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized him as "self-inflicted."
On the same day, Jeong shared an article on his Facebook stating that the court decided to revoke Pastor Jeon's bail and confiscate his 30 million won deposit, saying, "Jeon Gwang-hoon, both his arrest under the election law and his re-incarceration due to bail revocation are all self-inflicted. Who can he blame?"
Jeong pointed out, "There are still people like Jeon Gwang-hoon who have not come to their senses and are inciting rallies for Gaecheonjeol on October 3rd," adding, "I hope they repent and reform."
He then urged the court to ban the Gaecheonjeol rally. He emphasized, "I hope the court reflects on the previous erroneous ruling by Park Hyung-soon and prohibits the Gaecheonjeol rally," adding, "I want the court to understand that the safety and lives of the people are more precious than legal technicalities."
Earlier, according to the legal community on the same day, the court accepted the prosecution's request and decided to revoke Pastor Jeon's bail. This came 140 days after Pastor Jeon was released on bail on April 20.
The court explained the reason for revoking the bail, stating, "There are grounds for violation of the designated conditions under Article 102, Paragraph 2, Subparagraph 5 of the Criminal Procedure Act."
Along with this, the court confiscated the 30 million won deposit that Pastor Jeon had paid in cash.
