Hampyeong-gun Provides Temporary Housing Support to Flood Victims...Nation's First
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-ik) has installed and supported temporary modular houses for disaster victims who lost their homes due to heavy rain, marking the first nationwide effort of its kind.
According to Hampyeong-gun on the 7th, last month’s heavy rain damaged or washed away 75 roads and 47 rivers in the Hampyeong area, resulting in a total of 204 disaster victims.
Since mid-last month, the county completed emergency restoration work on both public and private facilities and provided emergency disaster relief funds and donations to a total of 136 households and 204 disaster victims.
In particular, for two households (4 people) who suffered housing destruction and flooding damage, the county invested 70 million KRW to urgently install two temporary modular houses where they can live temporarily.
The project proceeded as quickly as possible from site selection on the 21st of last month to administrative procedures such as construction notification for temporary buildings, and installation of electricity, water, and sewage systems.
To minimize construction time, the modular houses were pre-fabricated at a local assembly factory and then installed on site, taking less than half a month from site selection to move-in.
Currently, the two disaster-affected households have moved in normally since the day before yesterday.
The temporary modular houses supported by the county this time are 24㎡ in size, equipped with basic facilities such as rooms, living room, and kitchen, and include both heating and cooling systems.
The residents can use the temporary housing free of charge for up to one year, with the possibility of annual extensions.
Additionally, they are exempt from electricity charges for up to 9 months and receive a 50% discount on electricity bills for the following 3 months.
