GC Green Cross Wellbeing Placenta Injection Shows Similar Efficacy to Remdesivir
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] GC Green Cross Wellbeing announced on the 7th that it confirmed the antiviral effect of the placenta injection drug 'Rainek' against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
GC Green Cross Wellbeing, in collaboration with the research team from Chungbuk National University College of Medicine, studied the antiviral effect of the human placenta hydrolysate Rainek and confirmed that it has a virus proliferation inhibition efficacy similar to drugs used for COVID-19 treatment.
This study was conducted by artificially infecting healthy ferrets with the COVID-19 virus, then administering Rainek and the antiviral drugs 'Remdesivir' and 'Truvada' respectively, and measuring the virus.
The study results showed that Rainek demonstrated efficacy equivalent to the two antiviral drugs. All groups inoculated with the COVID-19 virus experienced weight loss and increased body temperature until the 4th day after infection.
However, in cases where Rainek and antiviral drugs were administered, symptoms gradually improved from the 6th to the 12th day compared to the negative control group.
In particular, on the 6th day after virus infection, the Rainek administration group significantly reduced coronavirus proliferation to a degree similar to the Remdesivir group. In lung tissue, a reduction in virus quantity was observed on the 3rd day of infection, and in the nasal turbinate tissue, on the 6th day.
In the lung tissues of ferrets administered Rainek and Truvada, immune substances interferon-alpha (IFN-α) and interferon-beta (IFN-β) greatly increased on the 3rd day of infection. On the 6th day, the Rainek administration group induced higher expression than Remdesivir and Truvada.
