12 Bus Stops in Nam-gu, Gwangju Improved with 'Seoseokdae Shape and Barrier-Free Function'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 7th that it will carry out a city bus stop improvement project targeting 12 city bus stops by investing 245 million KRW from this month until November.
First, Gwangju-themed bus stops embodying the identity of Gwangju will be installed at city bus stops within the district.
The locations where the Gwangju-themed bus stops will be installed include seven places such as in front of Gwangju University and Gwangju Hyanggyo.
These stops will feature a design that three-dimensionally represents Mudeungsan Seoseokdae, and bus stops will be created with barrier-free designs to ensure that transportation-vulnerable groups, such as those boarding and alighting buses and wheelchair users, can use city buses without inconvenience.
Additionally, two bus stops in Wolsan 4-dong and Wolsan 5-dong, where low-floor buses pass through, will have barrier-free stops installed to provide convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups using public transportation.
Nam-gu decided to install barrier-free bus stops here through meetings and on-site inspections with representatives of disability-related organizations in May and June.
To ensure that transportation-vulnerable groups such as the disabled can use low-floor buses without inconvenience, surrounding obstacles will be removed, and wheelchair waiting areas, bus stop position markings, and braille blocks will be installed.
Along with this, modernization of facilities and environmental maintenance will be carried out for three bus stops located in the outskirts of the city, such as Jiseok Intersection and Daechon-dong Administrative Welfare Center, as they have become old and lost their function as bus stops.
Considering the high number of elderly users, these stops are expected to be transformed into senior-friendly bus stops equipped with designs harmonizing with the surrounding landscape and bus arrival information systems.
