View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Typhoon No. 10 'Haishen' is expected to move northward along the East Sea without passing through the Korean mainland.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 3 p.m. on the 5th, the typhoon is moving north at a speed of 19 km/h in the sea about 410 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan.
With a central pressure of 915 hPa, a strong wind radius of about 500 km, and a maximum central wind speed of 198 km/h, it has developed into an 'ultra-powerful' intensity.
The Korea Meteorological Administration established the ultra-powerful intensity category this year (maximum wind speed of 54 m/s or 194 km/h and above), and Haishen is the first typhoon to develop into this ultra-powerful intensity since its introduction.
The typhoon's path has been adjusted slightly eastward because cold air from the northwest is pushing the typhoon eastward, and the North Pacific High, which forms the typhoon's pathway, has shifted somewhat eastward away from the Japanese archipelago.
From the morning of the 6th, the typhoon will move through waters around 28 degrees Celsius, which is somewhat cooler than its origin, gradually weakening its strength. However, it is expected to maintain very strong intensity while passing between Jeju Island and Kyushu, Japan on the 7th. After passing between Jeju Island and Kyushu on the morning of the 7th, the typhoon is expected to move northward along the East Coast in the afternoon.

View original imageDue to the northern rainbands of the typhoon, as of 4:30 p.m. on the same day, rain is falling in Jeju Island, Gyeongsang Province, and the southern coast of Jeollanam-do. This rain will expand nationwide by the afternoon of the next day. Rain is expected to stop from Jeju Island and the southern regions starting from the night of the 7th, with most areas clearing by the morning of the 8th.
As the typhoon is expected to move northward along the East Coast, very heavy rainfall of 100 to 300 mm (with a maximum of over 400 mm in Gangwon Yeongdong, the East Coast of North Gyeongsang, and the northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang) will occur mainly in Gyeongsang Province, Gangwon Yeongdong, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo. Jeollanam-do, the eastern inland of Jeonbuk, and Jeju Island will receive 100 to 200 mm (with over 300 mm in the mountainous areas of Jeju Island, Jirisan, and Deogyusan), and other parts of the country are expected to receive 50 to 100 mm of heavy rain.
Up to 300 mm of heavy rain in Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Yeongdong
Expected precipitation of 100 mm nationwide
Possible storm surge centered on the eastern coast of the South Sea and the East Coast
Starting from Jeju Island on the 6th, very strong winds with maximum instantaneous wind speeds of 90 to 145 km/h (25 to 40 m/s) are expected in Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Yeongdong, which are closest to the typhoon's path, on the 7th and early 8th, so caution is required.
Due to the typhoon's low central pressure, the sea level along the eastern coast of the South Sea and the East Coast will rise about 1 meter higher than usual, and waves will be very high, raising the possibility of a storm surge.
