[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the German government's announcement that Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny was poisoned with the military nerve agent Novichok, saying, "If true, it should be taken very seriously," and described it as "a tragic, terrible, and unacceptable event."
At a White House press conference on the 4th (local time), President Trump said regarding the German government's announcement that Navalny was poisoned with Novichok, "If true, I would be very angry."
However, he also stated that the related evidence needs to be reviewed. President Trump said, "I have not yet seen the related evidence directly," and added, "I will receive related documents and data within a few days and will review them."
He also expressed agreement with Germany imposing sanctions on Russia in connection with this matter. President Trump said, "If (Germany) takes necessary measures, I would be okay with that."
Earlier, on the 2nd, Germany announced that the Federal Armed Forces Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology found evidence that Navalny was poisoned with Novichok. Navalny collapsed on a plane while returning from Siberia on the 20th of last month and received hospital treatment. Russian hospitals announced that no traces of poison were detected. However, a German civil organization transported Navalny by flight to a hospital in Berlin, Germany, where he received treatment.

He said, "We are ready to support India and China," and added, "If there is anything we can do, we want to intervene and help."
