Yangcheon-gu Sinwol 1-dong Doldari Village Selected as Seoul-type Urban Regeneration Activation Area
Secured 10 Billion Won Budget as Catalyst for Urban Regeneration Over Next 5 Years... Pursuing Eco-Friendly and Healthy Urban Regeneration Through Projects Including Old Housing Renovation, Market Revitalization, and Basic Living Infrastructure Expansion
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced that Sinwol 1-dong has been finally selected as a Seoul-type urban regeneration activation area.
An official from the district stated, “Sinwol 1-dong is an area where old low-rise residential areas and market commercial districts are mixed, making the improvement of the residential environment and the expansion of convenience facilities urgently needed.” The area was highly evaluated for the necessity and urgency of the project, residents’ willingness to participate, and expected effects, leading to its final selection as a Seoul-type urban regeneration activation area.
The area around lot 799 in Sinwol 1-dong, selected as the Seoul-type urban regeneration activation area this time, was developed as a single-family housing area through a land readjustment project in the 1970s. However, due to regulations such as housing height restrictions caused by aircraft flight paths, regional development progressed slowly. As the population decreased and facilities such as cultural and educational institutions were lacking, young residents left the area, raising concerns about regional decline due to aging.
With the selection of Sinwol 1-dong as an urban regeneration activation area, it has secured a seed budget of 10 billion KRW over five years starting this year.
Going forward, through the establishment of a basic urban regeneration activation plan, spaces for residents will be secured, and various programs will be promoted to restore and build the local community, transforming the area into a vibrant city equipped with sustainable momentum.
Residential areas will be regenerated through projects such as the Gakkum Housing Project and old housing maintenance projects. Along with revitalizing markets as village central hubs by strengthening the competitiveness of Sinyeong Market and Woljeong-ro Market, basic living infrastructure will be expanded.
Additionally, the district expects that the accumulated experience and know-how from the Sinwol 1-dong Urban Regeneration Hope Site Project, which has been promoted since 2016, will be shared among resident groups, and cooperative relationships will be established with resident councils promoting urban regeneration in neighboring areas.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, emphasized, “The ultimate goal of urban regeneration is to create a city where residents feel the benefits together and continuously develop, making it a happy and vibrant city. Yangcheon-gu will revitalize the Sinwol 1-dong area by improving the aging residential environment and activating alleyway commercial districts through urban regeneration.” He added, “We will establish urban regeneration governance with the managed residential environment improvement project in Sinwol 1 and 5-dong and the urban regeneration activation project in Sinwol 3-dong, which are being promoted in nearby areas, to lead balanced and successful urban regeneration across the entire Sinwol-dong living area.”
