Yeosu City "Reducing Traffic Accidents with Focused Crosswalk Lighting"
Installation of 119 Pedestrian Crossing Spotlight Devices (LED Floodlights)
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City announced on the 4th that it has expanded the installation of LED floodlights, a focused lighting device, at intersections and crosswalks to reduce nighttime pedestrian traffic accidents and protect citizens' safety.
According to the city, 119 LED floodlights were installed at 31 traffic accident-prone locations with an investment of over 200 million KRW.
LED floodlights are lighting devices designed to increase the visibility distance for nighttime drivers, helping pedestrians to be easily recognized during night and rainy conditions, thereby greatly aiding in the prevention of safety accidents in advance.
According to the Construction Technology Research Institute, the installation of floodlights increased drivers' visibility distance from the existing 73m to 115m, and the rate at which pedestrians look left and right also rose from 36% to 58%, proving effective in reducing nighttime pedestrian traffic accidents.
By the first half of this year, the city installed a total of 704 crosswalk floodlights at 321 locations. In the second half, an additional 48 floodlights will be installed at 10 crosswalks within child protection zones.
