Prosecutors Investigating Lee Jae-yong Transferred Entirely to Special Trial Team 2
"Focus on Prosecution Maintenance"... Total of 9 Members Including Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-chul
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The prosecution, which indicted Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, is deploying the entire investigation team to the trial team to focus on maintaining the prosecution. There are concerns that if the investigation team is disbanded, there may be gaps in maintaining the prosecution.
On the 3rd, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office announced that, based on the personnel reshuffle in the second half of the year, all prosecutors from the Economic Crime Criminal Division who were investigating the 'Samsung illegal management succession suspicion,' except those who were transferred, were moved to the Special Trial Team 2.
Excluding Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Bok-hyun and Deputy Chief Prosecutor Choi Jae-hoon, who were transferred in this reshuffle, eight prosecutors were moved, making Special Trial Team 2 consist of nine members including Team Leader Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-chul. Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee, who was assigned to the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office, also plans to participate in the trial.
Additionally, personnel reassignments were made for other ongoing trials. The newly formed Economic Crime Criminal Division was staffed with prosecutors who investigated the Optimus case to ensure continuity in the investigation.
The team that investigated the corruption allegations involving former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk's family will deploy all six remaining prosecutors, except those transferred, to the trial. Four were assigned to Special Trial Team 1, and the remaining two were assigned as trial prosecutors to the relevant trial divisions at the Seoul Central District Court.
The 'media collusion suspicion' case will be investigated by the newly formed Criminal Division 1 (headed by Chief Prosecutor Byun Pil-geon). The existing investigation team, including Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jeong Jin-ung of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, who was the former head of Criminal Division 1, will maintain the prosecution for the trial of former Channel A reporter Lee Dong-jae. Prosecutors participating in trial dates may change depending on circumstances.
The Public Investigation Division 2 will continue to handle the Blue House's alleged interference in the Ulsan mayoral election case. Although six members, including Chief Prosecutor Kim Tae-eun, were transferred or took leave and left the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in this reshuffle, the prosecution explained that sufficient personnel were assigned to continue the investigation and prosecution without interruption.
