US: "Chinese Diplomats Must Obtain Prior Approval Before Visiting Universities"
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United States has imposed restrictions requiring Chinese diplomats active within the country to obtain approval before visiting American universities or meeting with local officials.
Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State, stated in a press release on the 2nd (local time) that attempts by American diplomats to host cultural events, secure official meetings, or visit universities are frequently obstructed in China, and that this measure is being taken on the basis of reciprocity.
Additionally, cultural events with more than 50 participants hosted outside the building by the Chinese embassy must receive approval from the State Department.
