'2020 Yeosu International Art Festival' Opens on the 4th
September 4 to October 5... Exhibition of over 300 works by 90 artists on the theme 'Haese 解題 Taboo Words'
Admission limited to under 50 people, operated in compliance with social distancing level 2 guidelines
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) delivers a message of comfort through art to citizens suffering from stress and anxiety caused by "Corona Blue."
According to the city, Yeosu's representative exhibition, the "2020 Yeosu International Art Festival," will be held from the 4th of this month to the 5th of next month at the Expo Exhibition Hall (D1~D4) and the Expo Art Gallery (opening from September 8).
Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the Yeosu International Art Festival decided to cancel both the opening ceremony and banquet events due to the spread of COVID-19, holding only the exhibition.
The theme of this exhibition is "解題 (Interpretation) Taboo Words." From primal taboos to those implying temporality and regionality, through artists expressing "things that cannot be spoken," visitors can experience a special sensation of exhilaration while breaking existing frameworks and shifting perceptions.
During the exhibition period, citizens and tourists can view 300 contemporary art pieces, including 10 video media works, 270 paintings and photographs, and 20 installations by 90 domestic and international artists.
Unlike last year, when 120 artists submitted 150 works, this year 90 artists are presenting 300 works, allowing a glimpse into the diverse artistic worlds of individual artists.
This exhibition strictly adheres to social distancing level 2 quarantine guidelines by limiting the number of visitors to fewer than 50 and maintaining spacing during viewing. If the local infection spread continues and social distancing levels are raised, the exhibition will be converted into a video exhibition.
