On the 1st, a statement in the name of all members after the union's solo protest
Avoid conflict to overcome the COVID-19 crisis
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Yeosu City Council (Chairman Jeon Chang-gon) on the 1st urged respect for the decision-making authority of local councils in relation to the Yeosu City Hall Public Officials' Union's announcement of a one-person protest demanding the submission of the budget for the annex building extension at City Hall.
The City Council issued a statement on behalf of all members on the same day, criticizing, "The announcement by the Public Officials' Union is a serious matter that disregards and intimidates the local council, which is the representative body of the residents."
The City Council emphasized, "The local council is the representative body of the residents and the highest decision-making body of the local government," adding, "The local council exercises its legally stipulated decision-making authority to deliberate on major agendas, and the annex building extension is no exception."
It further pointed out, "Announcing a protest regarding a matter subject to resolution restricts the autonomous will of the council members and disregards the decision-making authority of the local council," and "This does not align with the union's fundamental role of improving the working conditions of its members."
The City Council also added, "The annex building extension agenda will be reviewed according to procedures, and actions that provoke conflict at a time when efforts should be united to overcome COVID-19 should be avoided."
