View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] The Korea Higher Education Foundation (Chairman Choi Tae-won, SK Group Chairman) announced on the 30th that Professor Choi Byung-il of Ewha Womans University Graduate School of International Studies will be appointed as the new Secretary-General.
The Korea Higher Education Foundation is a non-profit public foundation established by the late Choi Jong-hyun, former chairman of SK Group. Since 1974, it has produced over 780 PhD holders from world-renowned graduate schools through overseas study scholarship programs to nurture scholars who contribute to national and academic development.
Since 2000, the foundation has promoted international academic projects, supporting visits and research of over 1,000 scholars from 18 Asian countries and establishing 18 Asia Research Centers at major universities in 8 Asian countries. Since 2004, it has held large-scale international academic forums such as the Beijing Forum and Shanghai Forum in China.
The scholars produced by the foundation have visited more than 1,260 schools nationwide, reaching 140,000 middle and high school students to present visions, motivate academic pursuits, and disseminate knowledge.

The new Secretary-General Choi is also a former foundation scholarship recipient. He earned a PhD in Economics from Yale University and has served as president of the Korean International Economic Association, president of the Korean International Trade Association, and member of the National Economic Advisory Council. He currently serves as vice chairman of the United Nations Association of Korea, among other roles.
