[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Four additional COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Jeju in one day on the 29th. The spread of n-th generation infections originating from a 'guesthouse' was revealed, causing health authorities to be on high alert.
According to Jeju Province on the 30th, at around 11:10 PM the previous day, the Provincial Health and Environment Research Institute notified them of four new confirmed cases, and an immediate epidemiological investigation was launched.
Among the four confirmed cases, one (No. 39) is a family member of a confirmed case from another city/province, two (Nos. 40 and 42) visited Sanbangsan Carbonated Hot Springs, and the remaining one (No. 41) was confirmed as a contact of Seoul Gangdong-gu case No. 138, who had visited the Rooftop Garden.
Jeju's 39th confirmed case, Mr. A, is a contact of a confirmed case in Nowon-gu, Seoul.
Mr. A arrived in Jeju on the afternoon of the 28th at 3:10 PM via Air Seoul flight RS923 from Gimpo. On the 29th, he received notification of his family member's positive test result along with a contact alert message. Around 12:30 PM that day, he underwent specimen collection at the Jeju Public Health Center screening clinic, was transferred to the Provincial Human Resources Development Institute for isolation, and was later confirmed positive.
Jeju's 40th confirmed case, Mr. B, and 42nd confirmed case, Mr. C, are visitors to Sanbangsan Carbonated Hot Springs in Seogwipo City, which was visited by a pastor couple who are Jeju cases No. 29 and 33.
Mr. B, after receiving instructions for testing as a hot springs visitor, visited Jeju City Public Health Center around 3 PM on the 29th. It was confirmed that he visited the hot springs during the same time frame (2 PM to 6 PM) as the pastor couple (Nos. 29 and 33). After specimen collection, he was confirmed positive.
Mr. C was also confirmed to have visited Sanbangsan Carbonated Hot Springs during the same time frame as the pastor couple. After specimen collection, he was confirmed positive. He is currently exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms such as coughing.
Jeju's 41st confirmed case, Mr. D, is a contact of Seoul Gangdong-gu case No. 138, who stayed at the Rooftop Garden guesthouse.
Mr. D is an employee at the ‘Barami Meomulda’ guesthouse located in Aewol-eup, Jeju City. It is presumed that close contact occurred while Gangdong-gu case No. 138 stayed there from the 26th to the 27th. It was confirmed that Gangdong-gu case No. 138 attended an evening party at the Rooftop Garden guesthouse in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo City on the 25th, the day before staying at ‘Barami Meomulda’ guesthouse.
The infection spread rapidly and progressively in the order of guesthouse ‘Rooftop owner’ → ‘Rooftop employee’ → Rooftop visitors → guesthouse ‘Barami Meomulda’ employee.
Mr. D was classified as a contact during the epidemiological investigation of Gangdong-gu case No. 138 at Jeju Western Public Health Center. Around 7 PM, a health center staff member visited the guesthouse, collected specimens, and Mr. D was confirmed positive.
