Gyeonggi-do Child Meal Card Usable at 180,000 Restaurants Starting from the 31st
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Starting from the 31st, 180,000 restaurants in Gyeonggi Province will be able to accept the Child Meal Card (G Dream Card). This is the first case nationwide.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that after continuous consultations since last year with NH Nonghyup Bank Gyeonggi Business Headquarters and BC Card, from the end of this month, 180,000 BC Card affiliated general restaurants in the province will be able to accept the Child Meal Card (G Dream Card).
The Child Meal Card is a card that provides meals funded by the province and city/county budgets to children under 18 who are at risk of missing meals due to difficult economic circumstances such as parental unemployment.
However, the problem was that the Child Meal Card could only be used at affiliated stores partnered with the respective local governments, which severely limited the number of restaurants where children could use the card. Even in Gyeonggi Province, there were only about 3,500 general restaurants where the G Dream Card could be used.
To solve this issue, the province has been working with NH Nonghyup Bank Gyeonggi Business Headquarters, the system operator of the Child Meal Card, to automatically link BC Card’s general restaurant affiliates to the G Dream Card.
With this BC Card affiliate linkage measure, the number of general restaurants accepting the G Dream Card will be greatly expanded from about 3,500 to 180,000. However, usage at establishments unsuitable for child meal card affiliation, such as pubs, pojangmacha (street food tents), and cafes, will be restricted.
Available affiliated stores can be checked from 0:00 on the 31st through the G Dream Card website (gdream.gg.go.kr). Starting next month, confirmation will also be possible via the mobile app (NH App Cash).
Park Geun-gyun, Director of the Child Care Division of the province, emphasized, "With this measure, it is expected that children will be able to enjoy a wider variety of menus at nearby restaurants. We will continue to promote improvements to make it easier for children at risk of missing meals to use restaurants."
