Jeonnam Fire Department Urges Caution for 'Bee Sting Safety Accidents'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) has urged caution regarding 'bee sting safety accidents' during the peak heat in August and September.
According to Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 28th, there were 178 cases of bee sting accidents transported to hospitals in the province as of August this year.
Jeonnam Fire responded to 3,296 dispatches for beehive removal.
This year, especially after the long rainy season, a rapid rise in temperature is expected to increase related reports, necessitating special safety management measures.
On the 13th, a 'Bee Sting Accident Warning' was issued nationwide.
The warning is issued when more than 300 bee sting accidents per week or more than 7,000 beehive removal dispatches per week occur or are expected for two consecutive weeks.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Fire promoted prevention methods and response measures to prevent bee sting damage.
It is advised to avoid perfumes, cosmetics that can attract bees, and dark-colored clothing.
Also, if bees approach closely, one should carefully avoid them without startling the bees, either by moving away cautiously or by staying still and crouching low.
If stung by a bee, allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock may occur, so the stinger should be promptly removed using appropriate methods, and one should visit a hospital within an hour to receive professional treatment.

Chief Ma Jaeyoon said, "An increase in bee activity due to the heat and an increase in bee sting accidents during outdoor activities such as beolcho (grass cutting) are expected," and added, "We ask for special caution to prevent damage, and if you find a beehive, do not try to remove it yourself but report it to 119."
